After retraining on Hurricane at No. 5 OTU in Usworth he was posted on 4th October 1940 to No. 1 Squadron to Wittering.

During the night from 10th to 11th May 1941 he shot down one Heinkel He 111 over river Thames and on 21st May one Bf 109 over the Channel.

On 1st January 1942 he finished his first operational tour with No. 1 Squadron and left unit for the rest.

His second operational duty he started as Pilot Officer at No. 313 Czechoslovak Fighter Squadronon 24th August 1942.

On 15th March 1943 was Czechoslovak Fighter Wing escorting bombers to France. When bombers finished the bombing, formation was turning back. In this moment his Spitfire VB AR546 collided with another one.
(The second plane, SpitfireVB EP449 piloted by F/Sgt Jan Blaha, AFM, fell into spin and crashed in the sea immediately.)
He was able to fly with damaged plane but near the British coast he made forced landing on the sea level but his plane sank in a few seconds...

His body was never found, so he commemorate on panel No. 125 of Runnymede Memorial.
