He came to No. 310 Czechoslovak Fighter Squadron on 12th July 1940. After retrainig on Hurricane he was on 27th August moved with other three pilots to No. 19 Squadron. There he passed retraining on Spitfire and became operational pilot.

He died on 5th November 1940 when his Spitfire IIA P7545 QV- was shot down by Bf 109 from I/JG 26 during the dogfight over Southend on Sea. His plane crashed into the river Thames near Southend Pier.

His body was found on 7th November and it was burried on 12th November 1940 at Sutton Road in Southend on Sea.
