After retraining on Hurricane he was posted on 14th October 1940 to No. 85 Squadron at Church Fenton. On 22th October he was transfered to No. 1 Squadron where he stayed for eleven months except short rest between 27th November and 8th December 1940.

On 30th October 1940 he heavily damaged his Hurricane I N2433 during landing because he put flaps in wrong position.

In the night from 10th to 11th May 1941 he took off with Hurricane IIA Z3687 against group of enemy bombers and he shot down three of them. First was Heinkel He 111 over London at 00.35, second one Heinkel He 111 near Gatwick at 01.50 and last one was Junkers Ju 88 near Biggin Hill at 03.25.

On 23th September 1941 he moved to No. 310 Czechoslovak Fighter Squadron where he served for seven months.

On 20th May 1942 he returned to No. 1 Squadron where he started with operations named "Intruder".

He died on 4th June 1942 during the Intruder flight over Evreux-Fauville airfield. His Hurricane IIC Z3183 was probably shot down by enemy flak near Le Havre and crashed in the Channel.

His body was founded on 8th September 1942 at Worthing and burried on Westwell Cemetery at Kent.

Sometimes he used his "war name" Ligoticky.
