After retraining at No. 6 O.T.U. he was on 19th October 1940 posted to No. 111 Squadron based at Drem.

On 4th December he was transfered to No. 605 Squadron to Croydon. On 7th April 1941 he took off with Hurricane IIA Z2318 for training flight. At 11.43 his plane collided with Spitfire IIB P8315 from No. 24 Maintenance Unit piloted by another Czechoslovak pilot Sgt Josef Martinec. Both planes crashed near Ternhill and their pilots have died.

There is a big possibility that both planes have collided during casual dogfight.

Both of Czechoslovak pilots, Sgt Kestler and Sgt Martinec, were burried at Marked Drayton in Shropshire. Their graves lie abreast ...
